Pride, why are you in my way again?

Pride, why are you in my way again?

Pride, why are you in the way again?

It is fine to take pride in the work that you do.  But sometimes pride becomes an obstacle in our growth and in our careers.

Recently I really let pride get in the way in several things in my life and in my career.  It is so easy to just say “God will take care of it”.  However, do we really place our faith in God, and know that he will guide us.

I know that for myself I would simply say that God will lead me to where I need to go but my pride would take over.  I recently started a new venture, and I thought that it was the right thing to do.  I felt that this was something that had Gods blessing.  At first everything seemed to be going well, and I was very grateful.  After a while things were not going the way I wanted.  My pride got in the way and I kept at it despite the reality that the new venture was failing.

Eventually I sat down and thought about it, prayed and spoke to my spouse.  My children are a little bit to young to understand what is going on, so they were left out this time.  The answer became clear that I had to put my pride aside and focus on something else.  I can see now that I was on the wrong path.  The general idea was right, but I needed that gentle nudge from Jesus to put me on the right path.

This event has left me with a deeper desire to strengthen our family’s connection with Christ.  It has also led me to create this blog so that I can chronicle our journey and hopefully help others out that are on the same journey.

By insolence the heedless make strife, but wisdom is with those who take advice. ( Proverbs 13:10, NRSV).”  I had forgotten that we must try to glorify God in our daily lives.  I was given choices when I started my new venture.  I could have chosen the path that I am on now right from the start, but I did not.  I went with easier path, instead of a path that would help others and hopefully bring a little light to the world.

All to often we can find ourselves chasing material things.  We need a bigger house, or we need a better car.  We should be focusing on doing some work for God instead of putting in countless hours of labor just to better ourselves.  Yes, I understand that we all must work and sometimes our jobs can be very demanding.  But many times, we take on extra work that we do not really have to do.  Often this is at the sacrifice of time with our family and time that we could be spending doing Gods work.  “Love the Lord, all you his saints. The Lord preserves the faithful, but abundantly repays the one who acts haughtily. (Psalm 31:23, NRSV).”

God speaks to us in our daily lives.  Don’t make the same mistake that I made and let your pride stand in the way.  We must always try to be receptive to where the Lord is leading us.  He has a plan for all of us we just need to open our hearts and our minds so that we may follow him.

Till the next post, God bless you
